Head of ABN Amro Diamond and Jewelry Division Retires

November 26, 2008

G. Loet Kniphorst, global director of the ABN Amro Diamond and Jewelry Division and one of the most powerful people in the industry, has announced his retirement. Here are some excerpts from his letter:

I made my decision to retire more than a year ago and the current hectic events both in the global financial markets as well as with ABN AMRO have made me doubt whether my timing is right.  However, I strongly feel the need for a change and my recently acquired house in the Provence lures, while at the same time I am confident that our International Diamond and Jewellery Group will weather any storm and will remain an important partner to you and a leader in the diamond industry.

Moreover, I am happy to inform you that the bank has offered me a position as advisor to ID&JG, which I have gladly accepted.

He adds …

It is not only because of the unique professional experience of an expatriate banker, but even more so for having had the opportunity to live in different cultures, understand diverse habits and religions and to build up long-lasting friendships all over the world both professionally and socially.  If I could live my life over again, I would certainly choose to be an expat banker again.

No word yet on his replacement, but I just want to take the opportunity to wish Mr. Kniphorst the best …

I wish Loet all the best. Working with him when I was at ABN AMRO Bank was a distinct pleasure. I am quite jealous as I would also love to have a home in Provence; especially as we approach winter here in New York City. All the best Loet and kind regards
