I’m on My Way to JCK
I’m sitting on the plane and as I type this…I can’t help to look around at who I think is going to the show and who’s not. As I watch men and women walk down the airplane aisle I notice some very nice pieces. Expensive taste (I think to myself while in gym pants and an old t-shirt and sweatshirt) wondering if they own a store or are buyers or just haven’t seen them shop at my store and wondering if I should slip them a card.
The plane is in the air and I am free to use my much-loved laptop. In the row in front of me there happens to be a man and his wife armed with inventory (best seller sheets). I see the pictures of the jewelry, prices and so forth. He is also thumbing through some direct mail pieces. First off, I wouldn’t be caught dead looking at jewelry stuff on the plane (last time we did that on the way to Tucson our luggage wasn’t there when we got off the plane). I can’t help to get a little excited…I do love our industry but when I’m asked do you have fun while at JCK my usual answer is NO! The last three years we have tried to grow our bridal business and branded inventory. It seems like every year I’m on a hunt for one specific thing that it takes over our entire trip.
In addition, to make our trip more enjoyable every JCK trip I’ve talked about making a vacation out of it—maybe drive to the Grand Canyon one day or have a spa day and go to a few shows…or hell book a muti-city plane ticket and go somewhere after the show. Once again I have failed to book a spa—I’m thinking to see Ka by Cirque de Soleil or The Blue Man Group—maybe I’ll get off my butt and book one of those as soon as we land. I did however book a few days to FL after Vegas—of course not a vacation but a chance to see the family. My mom is pretty upset my husband and I haven’t been down to FL in over year.
So…besides work what do you do to have fun? Do you see shows…Have you seen Ka or Blue Man Group? Do you like to gamble (my favorite game is three card poker but only play a little)? Any spas that are out of this world?
