My Employee Came in with a Hickie on Her Neck!

All mom, dad, and I talk about is the business—you can tell it’s an obsession because I love writing about it too.

Mom-Dad go to downtown on Monday’s—Seybold Building, the headquarters for wholesalers and retailers in downtown Miami. The building has retailers at the ground level floor and wholesalers on most all other levels. Even though they were there to pick up some findings, and so forth—mom had to peek in the windows of all the other retailers. Come on—I know you all do it too! Of course, she found something of interest and went into the store to get a better look—and there she was—“Sarb, how are you doing,” she said. It was one of our ex-employees—with a huge freaking love bite on her neck.

Mom told me she couldn’t even concentrate on what she was saying—because the bite was the size of a golf ball. I couldn’t help but laugh my butt off—but seriously for a sec—if it was one of my staff members, I have no idea what I’d do.

Sales associates, including bosses need to keep their personal-sexual experiences at home. I’m a newlywed too but I don’t go around with hickies on my neck—and if I did have one I’d be wearing a turtleneck in August or I’d bring back the scarf in summer time.

What do you do if one of your employees came in with a love bite on their neck? Isn’t it distracting? Do you find it disrespectful that they come into the store like that? Do you send them home and tell them to come back in 3 or 4 days? Do you tell them to wear a turtleneck? How do you even bring up a subject like this in the first place? By the way, the make-up did nothing—mom could clearly see it.
