Ideas for in Store Parties and Events
April 13, 2008
Many of us have thrown some sort of party or in store event—but are any of them really different? For our Grand Opening I did throw an in store event—but I didn’t feel it was entirely different from the norm. We did have some very interesting mailers that went out to about 5,000 homes as well as two raffles, a red carpet, and drinks. The Grand Opening was a success but I wished I could have done something spectacular or something that would catch the interest of the press. Here are some ideas that I’ve heard of, but please feel free to add some more suggestions for events, in store celebrations, or promos.
- Inviting a diamond or stone cutter.
- Raffling off jewelry, dinner for two, and a spa treatment.
- Memo in unique merchandise and invite the reps to sell behind the counter.
- Valet service with entrance to the store on a red carpet.
- Individual mailers with an RSVP.
- A bartender for the serving of wine and beer.

Those are all good ideas maybe. The question is which will get new
customers, make you profits, and help everyone. Sure if a bridal
line would let you raffle off a bridal set from their collection
(and its a hot line) then you would gain customers; but how would
you make money? One idea someone told me once was this: Have an
ugliest jewelry contest. Place customers "ugly jewelry" items in
windows with numbers by them, have walk bys vote for the ugliest
piece of jewelry for a month. Whoever wins get a free remake of
their jewelry. Reasons this would work: 1.) it's different everyone
thinks of pretty when it comes to jewelry. Very press worthy. 2.)
customers will get ideas to remake ugly jewelry. Personally the
biggest money maker: have a gold buying event.
