Trend Watch: A Bevy of Baubles Balance a Bright Skirt

This autumn, body-hugging pencil skirts are in style, but some of the freshest designs in skirts are full and flirty, rendered in look-at-me colors. This season’s skirts are longer than many of the hemlines we’ve seen recently, often hitting below the knee.
In its September 2008 issue, Glamour magazine notes that pencil skirts flatter most bodies but urges its readers not to be afraid of the new fuller skirts, which can be “super-flattering, especially if you wear them with a snug top. Safest way to wear any bright skirt? With a dark, fitted sweater and multiple necklaces.”
Glamour doesn’t explain the reason for its recommendation, but consider the overall impression and proportions of the ensemble. With a dark, fitted top and a bright skirt, either narrow or full, the eye goes directly to the skirt. In order to bring attention back up to the face, necklaces do the trick. And to balance the additional length of the new longer skirts and especially, with full skirts, the additional volume down below, multiple necklaces fit the bill beautifully.

Creative combinations of necklaces provide for unique fashion statements. Your customers may wish to add to their necklace collections with new pieces that mix well with their existing favorites. Encourage your customers to try on interesting combinations of necklaces they find appealing to create their own chic and trendy looks.
