Pictures—Last of the Random Show News
June 4, 2008

Yesterday was the last day of the show and the day David and I flew back home. Our last day was Sunday. David was “jewelried out” so we decided to sleep in on Monday and sit at the pool. We were so tired we actually slept in until noon then headed down to the pool. The pool was freezing so we ended up eating like pigs and watching TV. It was nice to have one day to relax before working at the store again. I did notice the show floor was a little slower on Sunday than it was on Friday and Saturday. Exhibitors told me Sunday and Monday was slow.

I hope all of you accomplished your intended missions. Our goal was to acquire another bridal line and I am happy so to say we did—but the road was not so easy. We visited many bridal booths at Luxury/Premiere so that by the time JCK started we had hoped to make our decision. Fortunately, our decision turned out to be easy because we met some very rude reps. As soon as I got to Martin Flyer’s booth I was so excited. I love the Flyer Fit rings and a very nice gentleman walked my husband and I through the line—suddenly the rep for NC became free and we were turned over to him—rude as all hell. The first thing that came out of his mouth was, “You the know the buy in is X amount of dollars.” He did not say, we do or do not have retailers in your area. Or let me show you the line. Or even shake our hand and introduce himself first. I replied, I’d like to see the line and understand a bit about your pricing, reordering time, loupe the product so to see the quality and finish, etc. The gentleman was so rude and turned me off so much that we didn’t go back. Unfortunately, I have faced many Reps like this—sometimes I feel it’s because my husband and I are young. We are ambitious and own a very successful business. On the other side I have met some unbelievable reps and am very excited to start a new relationship with another bridal vendor that was accommodating and willing to create a good business relationship from the start.

After acquiring our goal David and I had a couple of hours to roam the show floor and I was able to get a few pictures of some interesting products. The first are a couple of pendants from Bapalal Keshavlal. The designs on the yellow gold are created by laser—very different and saleable in my market. The ring is from Mark Silverstein Imagines. I was really excited to see a ring that incorporated the Marquise shape diamond. I have many customers looking to purchase a more modern shape but don’t know what to do with their first diamond—instead of creating a pendant this ring is great as a right hand ring.

If you have any pictures of “cool” designs seen on the show floor please email them to me at Shanu@gulianis.com so I may post them for others to see.
