Cleaning Pen off Counter Pads

I have no idea sometimes how pen gets on our counter pads and displays. Sometimes I wonder if my staff members have a pen in their hand and then reach in to get a piece out. It just baffles me and is one of my pet peeves. Does anyone have a good trick to get pen off counter pads and displays? Mine are beige so black or blue ink is quite obvious.
