My store carries Scott Kay, a few bridal pieces from Hearts on Fire, the store’s private label brand, and various semi-mounts from high quality manufacturers—but not necessarily designers with a renown name. I am happy to say; at this year’s show I purchased Simon G. and will be receiving their bridal line this October. Since the store opened I’ve felt I didn’t have enough bridal pieces for a 2100 sq ft store. Unfortunately, most in our industry get caught up in the—“the more you have the more you’ll sell.” We all know this isn’t true but sometimes I get caught up in it too when customer’s say, “Is this all the bridal you have?” How many bridal brands is too many? How many showcases should you dedicate to bridal if you want to be known as loose diamond and bridal store?

Keep in mind this is just my opinion, and I'm sure others will follow. We are located in the Midwest and therefore mainly sell bridal jewelry, we do carry some different designers and have our own exclusive collection, however we mainly want to be known for bridal. I do believe the more pieces you have the better. We do not carry conflicting lines, however, I believe each designer brings a different perspective. Do you have to be like Robbins Bros? Of course not! But keep in mind consumers looking online generally "specify" your store based on the brands you carry. We opened Simon G. last year, and I am sure you will enjoy the results, as we have thus far. Their fashion is outstanding and very reasonably priced. My question to everyone reading is if you could pick 5 lines (not watches) what would they be?

I think Christopher's point about conflicting lines strikes a good point. If you carry Tacori, do you really need a vintage styled line that looks awfully similar to it? Or would it be wiser to pour more resources into your Tacori line? I'd also keep price-point in mind. Having multiple styles to reccomend for Good-Better-Best qualities and prices can make everyone happy. It's extremely dissapointing to be told "
