How Do You Recognize Employees?
June 22, 2008

We all know every employee wants to be recognized by their employer for their contributions. Besides a simple, “nice job” or “way to go” how do you acknowledge, support, and promote, them to perform their best?

  1. Do you have an employee of the month? Acknowledge an employees success with a small plaque or something that would be displayed in the store for everyone to see.
  2. Do you get everyone working together? Provide monthly breakfasts (I think most jewelry store owners do this at meetings) or something that everyone shares together. Depending on the type of business, give awards for the numbers of team sales or the number of repairs taken in.
  3. Do you celebrate to keep moral high? I don’t have an awards program set up at my store but I make it a point to celebrate each employee’s birthday with cake and attendance from almost everyone.

I like your ideas to celebrate your employees hard work, however the "nice job" and "way to go" work for me. Simple and sincere words go a long way in letting your employees know that you appreciate them. As an employer please make sure you are telling the people who work for you that they are doing a good job. It's nice to hear. On a side bar I would say other than hearing I am doing a good job a small bonus or gift card would say a lot.
