Part 2—Wilkerson and Associates—Does that Mean Trouble?
July 10, 2008

Part one of this post (posted on June 24th) caused some concern, so I’d like to explain my thoughts behind it. While attending the JCK show back in early June I saw an ad in JCK magazine paid for by Edward Mirell welcoming Wilkerson and Associates. I carry the line and immediately got worried. Wilkerson and Associates website states that they are the largest national jewelry liquidator through closing and relocation sales. I had been experiencing problems with Edward Mirell’s company such as sales associates unaware of prices of pieces, prices going up and retailers being uninformed, and so on. I love the line and sell a tremendous amount of it and based on my current experiences with the company I thought Wilkerson and Associates was there to get them out of trouble. When I returned from the show, I visited Wilkerson and Associates website and no where on the website does it say they are distributors to manufacturing companies. Their website clearly talks about liquidations. Now after seeing the ad, visiting the website, and having problems with the company informing its retail partners I felt compelled to ask my peers if they have experienced the same. After releasing the original post Edward Mirell contacted me and mentioned Wilkerson and Associates is now going to be distributing their line. I didn’t quite understand what that meant so again I visited Wilkerson and Associates website and couldn’t find any mention of being distributors.

What really is their new relationship all about? Please explain.

From Spectore Corp.: We are quite concerned that after speaking directly to the poster of this comment as well as formally addressing the initial concerns on line in a response dated June 27th, 2008 that the poster still brings up the same concerns. During the initial phone conversation we specifically addressed the questions of company ownership and the relationship between Spectore Corp. and Wilkerson and Associates. It was stated quite clearly that no change in ownership or status of either company had taken place. We also recognized that our public relations at the initial phases of this relationship had not been as strong as it should have been. The facts are that Wilkerson and Associates are now and have been for some time actively promoting and distributing branded and non branded jewelry product through their sales force to the jewelry industry. The addition of the Edward Mirell brand became a natural compliment to their other endeavors. We strongly believe that through a more thorough and structured approach and by utilizing the Wilkerson sales force that we can even further enhance the brand image of Edward Mirell and increase sales and profits for our authorized dealers. With this new initiative comes many advantages to both our existing and our new authorized dealers. Examples are, a new seasonal dating package, enhanced in stores sales training, new POS materials, and a new updated in show case display. I hope that this adds additional clarity to this subject, and I have included an excerpt from our original reply of June 27th for your reference. Sincerely Neil Yeager COO Spectore Corp. From the post of June 27th, 2008 “Spectore has been operating (and still is) under the same ownership for over 25 years and has contributed a great deal to the industry. The facts are that Spectore Corporation did enter into a sales and distribution agreement with Wilkerson and Associates just prior to the JCK show in Las Vegas. This agreement was proudly announced in an advertisement appearing in the pre show issue of JCK magazine. It was the culmination of months of research to find a company with a sales force that could clearly, directly and concisely drive the initiatives and help enhance the brand image of Edward Mirell. Edward Mirell has established itself as the premier Nationally Advertised Contemporary Metals brand in the United States. In order for our authorized retailers to be able to get maximum benefit from the Edward Mirell brand we felt it was important for them to have access to a dedicated group of professional territory sales representatives. Wilkerson and Associates provides this important service with an extensive sales force of skilled and highly trained industry experts. We are thrilled to have them as part of our ongoing Edward Mirell Brand Initiative. Spectore will continue to be on the leading edge of product design and new material innovation that has set the standard for our Industry. EDWARD MIRELL....HMMM. We've been carriyng the line for over 5 years, and then changed location. All of a sudden, we were informed by the company, that we could't order certain rings anymore. That's interesting, because we have the rings in stock. They said they would send somebody to take physical inventory to ensure that we could take orders from our inventory, but the area distributor canceled the appointment. How are we supposed to promote a line by showing a piece and then hear from the company, that this particular piece is only sold through your competition. Anybody else out there who's had a similar experience??? A similar case is BENCHMARK, a company with a good product, but inferior customer service. When I signed up for BENCHMARK, the salesman gave me terms of 6 payments over 180 days. I purchased the line and ordered approximately $12,000.00 worth of wedding bands. The next day, the salesman informed me that he had added a couple of the best sellers to the order. 3 weeks later, I received the line and realized, that he had added over $4,000.00 to the order. The worst is yet to come: the payments just had more then doubled, from $2,000.00 per month to over $5,000.00 per month, because the only gave me 90 days to pay. When I got behind on the payments, they wouldn't supply me with any orders anymore. At this point, I have a showcase full of BENCHMARK merchandise without the possibility of re-ordering. Anyone interested in BENCHMARK jewelry at $400 gold?????

It is amazing how speaking in the current trend of gobble gook, can cause so much damage. The fact is that Wilkerson and Assoc. is a highly regarded company that has been in business many many years. Their forte is to run going out of business sales. This requires a great deal of merchandise of all types to fulfill. They specalize in purchasing new and OUTDATED merchandise from manufacturers and then reselling through sales persons or in their store liquidation business. Most manufacturers change their lines 3 or 4 times a year and have an excess of goods from previous lines available for sale at reduced prices. There are other companies doing the same thing such as Silverman and Gordon Brothers. Be assured that having dealt with Wilkerson and Associates for many years i can assure you of their high standards of business. This will only enhance the name brand of Edward Mirell to the public at large, which will result in better sales for your store
