Matching, Tagging, and Typing Inventory
September 28, 2007

I’m taking a little break this week from blogging so that I can open the doors to our new store on October 5th. Putting the inventory out is a huge job—to all manufacturers out there…there has got to be a better way to pack each piece and then locate them on the invoice.

The entire inventory that has arrived came in Ziploc bags and each piece of jewelry was wrapped individually with the style number on the outside white label. They were wrapped nicely, and packed so not to damage any piece but the order in which they came was a mess. None of the Ziplocs had a number that corresponded to the number on the invoice. Yes, the style number corresponded—but it was a number like M11304600MM…come on—it took my mom all day just to go through each and every box—place numbers 1-40 or so next to each item on the invoice and then put the same number on the Ziploc after finding and matching the item. In addition, most all the inventory that came had handwritten info on the outside Ziploc—we all know how that goes.

So to all you of receiving inventory in the future—have a little chat with your manufacturer and ask them if there is any easier way than to be sitting, wasting time, to match each piece.
