It's Midnight--Do You Know Where Your Staff Is?
May 24, 2007

In the “jewelry industry gets into your blood” department, I tried to take a few days off before heading to Las Vegas for the 8-day marathon that is the JCK Shows. I failed miserably at taking my first day off—but I knew I would, since there were many, many things still on my “to do” list for the magazine.I did a little better today, my second day off—I only got online twice before resolutely leaving the house to do some of my pre-Vegas errands. (Ok, so I wanted to leave by 10 a.m. and finally got out at noon…)

When I got back online, it was about 10:15 p.m. and I figured I could sneak off some answers to emails and then slither off to bed without actually having to engage in conversation till tomorrow (my third day off-ish.)

Wrong! I got answers from, in chronological order, Donna Borrelli and Carrie Soucy first. Then Tony DeMarco replied to something else. Bill Shuster weighed in about five minutes later on the same topic, and Tony reported that Gary Roskin was also online, so just for fun, I beamed him. Sure enough, he’s working on his seminar presentation for the JCK Show. So is Carrie Soucy working on hers. Tony was preparing eMonday, Bill was going through his show schedule and some other work, and Donna was frantically trying to wrap up a few things that have to be at the printer tomorrow and still make her 11 p.m. train home.

Wait—hold on—breaking news—Barbara Wenger, JCK’s contributing editor who has been handling our famous Retail Panel, just emailed me too!

We really do an amazing amount of things at JCK—except, obviously, sleep….

A clarification here--Donna Borrelli is JCK's associate publisher, not part of my staff. But she clearly doesn't sleep much either!
