Briderella?
April 18, 2007

Disney has teamed up with bridal designer Kirstie Kelly and launched this week a line of gowns inspired by Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and a few other waiting-for-Prince-Charming Disney characters. The gowns will retail from $1,100 to $3,500.

According to USA Today, a Disney spokesperson points out:

“A woman's first impression of love often comes from an animated character
and it's hard to completely erase that from her mind. If you think about who
the first person who teaches you about love, romance and Prince Charming is,
it probably happened between the ages of 2-5 and included Disney."

As a woman, I find this more disturbing than I can possibly even begin to describe. However, it will be interesting to see how this line does at retail. If it does well, and women really are willing to hand over $3,500 to look like Cinderella on their wedding day in hopes that Prince Charming will wake them from their sleep (I may have mixed up fairy tales there, but you know what I mean), does that mean it’s time to go rent some Disney classics and check out what jewelry these princesses wore? (I'm joking. I hope...)

Or, a little more realistically, perhaps Erica Rose, profiled in the spring issue of JCKstyle, has the timing just right in launching her new line of precious tiaras.

I think these gowns would be a bit more believable for prom (with a lower price, of course). My first prom gown was very Cinderella, and very pink.

Does this mean that instead of tuxes, men would have to wear the uniform/outfit of corresponding Prince Charming? I could ask what the mothers-in-law would wear, but I think we know where the train of thought is leading to.
