WATCHES: FROM RUSSIA TO WILL FERRELL
November 8, 2006

Dobro Pozhalovat! (Welcome!)

Russia's Fashion Week in March 2006 was a testament to the country's growing desire for quality products, both in clothing and accessories. The number of high-end designers who have flocked to the capital, Moscow, has been increasing through the years.

One such luxury designer happens to be my favorite watchmaker, Omega. They’ve opened a boutique at the GUM (pronounced güm) department store located in Red Square. In celebration of this new addition to their worldwide presence, Omega is releasing a limited-edition watch aptly named De Ville X2 “Red Square”, made of 18k red gold with automatic movement. The watch also boasts of an image of Chronos, the Greek God of time, on its back, in a brushed satin finish. The De Ville X2 was inspired by the Cosmic series that Omega released in 1952.

To attract buyers and tourists alike, Omega turned the GUM store into a Casino Royale set complete with poker tables as Daniel Craig and the cast of the movie graced the event. Always flashing an Omega, James Bond will once again wear the Seamaster Professional 300m Chronometer in the film.

That’s Bond…James Bond.

TIDBIT:

Omega is not Will Ferrell’s choice though for his new movie, Stranger Than Fiction. As Harold Crick, an IRS auditor, Will Ferrell will sport the Timex Ironman Triathlon Dual Tech watch that is both analog and digital in movement. It also features two time zones and two alarms with a 42-lap memory chronograph. I heard they're auctioning pieces on eBay as part of their promotion. Time to make those bids!

As we await the new 007 with a bit of uncertainty--will we embrace a blond Bond?--it's good to know that there's one thing we can count on: the gadgets!
