Jewelry Wars: Jewelry vs. Other AccessoriesDecember 1, 2006This morning in the office, Bacilio Mendez noted that long gloves have been making their way back onto the fashion scene. From a few cubes down, Rob Bates then wondered aloud if this might affect ring wearing or ring selling. What followed was a spirited conversation about a major threat to many jewelry sales- the other accessory. Some of the biggest rivalries to watch out for:
It is exceedingly fun to think about different jewelry v. accessories rivalries (try it). It’s also important to think about for members of our industry when promoting and selling product. In response to: Jewelry Wars: Jewelry vs. Other Accessories Rob Parisi commented: It's true, I rely on my cell phone more than a watch these days. Maybe the watch manufacturers should develop a line of cell phones with their own distinctive name and logo on them.

In response to: Jewelry Wars: Jewelry vs. Other Accessories Reina commented: The generation gap is alive and well! I still use my watch to tell time, use big, bulky headphones (to listen to tapes, I might add!)and my diamonds are on the outside of my rings. Do people really buy rings with diamonds on the inside???

In response to: Jewelry Wars: Jewelry vs. Other Accessories Jennifer Heebner commented: There's a buyer for everything, Reina. The last Virgin-Mary-inspired ham sandwich on eBay had a lot of bids. Considering that, I think people will buy rings with diamonds on the inside of shanks.

In response to: Jewelry Wars: Jewelry vs. Other Accessories Jennifer Heebner commented: No, not brain surgery, but what's common knowledge to one person may be new information to another. After all, there are 2.3 million new American consumers born every year.
