Fashion + Jewelry: Dynamic Duos of Fashion Week
November 6, 2006

Giddyap! Finally something both coasts can agree on: Two Spring 2007 Fashion Week newbies rocked the runway with what can be described as Urban Cowboy chic. Both L.A. and NYC showcased pairings of high-profile designers—of clothing and jewels—cheered on by stacks of celebrities.
On Oct. 17 in L.A., Brooke Dulien of White Trash Charms (remember the lightening bolt that Carrie Bradshaw wore on Sex and the City?) helped Justin Timberlake bring sexy back as she blinged out the already übercool William Rast line (JT’s new venture with longtime pal Trace Ayala). WTC applied rock ’n’ roll razzle-dazzle to a collection that offers Sexy Street versions of fashion’s bread and butter: jeans and Ts.
Meanwhile in Bryant Park a month earlier (Sept. 15), the “King of Cowboy Couture,” Manuel (famed outfitter of Elvis, Gene Autry, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Elton John, and the Man in Black, Johnny Cash to name a few), took his rockabilly sensibility to the runway. “The Iceman” Chris Aire, famous for his signature Red Gold, gave the seethingly hip, over-the-top, and somehow  wearable looks bijoux that held their own against Manuel’s sexy, inky, star-spangled looks.
Urban Cowboy chic? It’s a little bit country, a little bit rock ’n’ roll, and a whole lot of soul.
