Fashion + Jewelry: Ephymol + The Varsity Project
November 30, 2007

Here on the Style 360 blog, a primary concern is the intersection of fashion and jewelry. To that end, meet The Varsity Project's Michael Zirulnik: a young designer whose philosophy favors craftsmanship and individuality over quantity in his goal to "design meaningful, wearable art." Zirulnik finds inspiration well beyond his New York doorstep and the year 2007. Recently, he teamed with South African menswear designer Ephraim Molingoana, of Ephymol, in Sanlam South African Fashion Week for Molingoana's Spring/Summer '07/08 collection. Highlights below:

This oxidized sterling silver medallion, Eastern European Influence, takes over 50 hours to complete!

A trio of sterling silver pendants encase symbols that are meant to inspire:

  • In The Heart of Africa, a limited edition bronze elephant stands for strength and the combination of greatness and humility
  • In Hope, a copper Buddha reminds us to keep faith
  • In Harmony, copper die-cut stars connote peace

feature a three-point diamond in sterling silver. The design inspiration comes from South East Indian coins dating back over 2,000 years.
