Trend Spotting: Roses
March 8, 2007

Spring is near and everything’s come up roses on the ’07 runways. Floral prints strutted for Isaac Mizrahi, Rodarte, Alexander McQueen, Tuleh, and Louis Vuitton (among others). Paging through my usual fashion mag stash, I’m struck also by LV’s recent Spring/Summer 2007 advertising campaign featuring Scarlett Johansson (soon to be a triple threat—her singing career is pending). I love the rosette bangles that add pops of color to match rosy lips and romantic curls. If you’re not fully committed to flower power, jewelry is a great way to get your fix without looking like you’re in full bloom. Here, a bouquet of baubles that will have you seeing through rose-colored glasses.

  • Annette Ferdinandsen offers dainty earrings of silver and ruby orchids, mother-of-pearl calla lilies, coral tulips, and rose petals at Ylang|23
  • Allison Daniel Designs has roses and daisies—or buckle up and flash your flowers at the waist
  • Han Cholo’s Rose necklace comes in silver, gold plated, and 14k, in big and baby sizes
  • Lorinczi’s Briar Rose collection gets thorny as it showcases the dangerous (and often-neglected) stem
  • Ten Thousand Things has 14k flower bud cluster and ruby buttercup necklaces, but I like the 18k cabbage rose earrings best, at Ylang|23
  • White Trash Charms has got It—roses with stems, that is—earrings or pendants in sterling, gold vermeil, or 14k
  • Carrera y Carrera’s Lago de Rosas (Lake of Roses) ring, in white gold with pink sapphires and rubies makes a statement, from the Garden of Roses collection (in Fashion jewelry)

Coomi's Wild Rose ring that I saw recently in a magazine was the best in flower power. Totally amazing.
