JSA Retains Former Zale Loss Prevention Expert

-- JCK-Jewelers Circular Keystone, 8/14/2008 3:32:00 PM

The Jewelers’ Security Alliance has retained George Slicho as a special consultant. He will work primarily on JSA’s project to develop local crime prevention networks of jewelers and police, as well as assist JSA with its extensive work involving retail jewelry chains.

Slicho retired last month as senior vice president for Loss Prevention at Zale Corp.

Slicho led loss prevention efforts at Zale for 17 years, and prior to that he served for six years as a special agent with the FBI and as director of Loss Prevention at a department store chain. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. In January 2006, JSA presented Slicho with the first JSA Industry Service Award.

“George Slicho is one of the leading experts in the world on loss prevention in the jewelry industry. JSA has worked with George for many years during his tenure at Zale and his help to JSA and his contributions to the safety of the jewelry industry have been immense,” John Kennedy, JSA president, said in a statement Thursday. “George has unparalleled experience involving security procedures and equipment and has been responsible for over 2,000 retail jewelry locations. There is no one better than George to help JSA intensify the war on jewelry crime, and we are thrilled that someone of his stature will be working with us.”

Kennedy said that Slicho had organized innovative training sessions on jewelry crime for many law enforcement audiences, and had spoken many times at JSA seminars.

“His speaking and training skills will be of particular help to JSA in its project to develop 200 local crime prevention networks of jewelers and police over the next three years.”
