SCOTT KAY ROCKS THE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

Designer Scott Kay was selected from among hundreds of jewelers to create a commemorative piece for the 2001 American Music Awards, held at the Shrine Theatre in Los Angeles on Jan. 8. Celebrity guests and musicians, including Daryl Hannah, Carmen Electra, Melissa Joan Hart, Aerosmith, Creed, Melissa Etheridge, Jessica Simpson, Kid Rock, and Snoop Dogg, received Kay's Barrel Link with his signature bar motif accented by the G clef design to represent the American Music Awards. Additional special gifts, including platinum and diamond bracelets, necklaces, and hoop earrings were presented to Brooke Shields, Tiffani Thiessan, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Toni Braxton, Ricky Martin, and Steven Tyler. Kay is shown with pop group Destiny's Child, who are wearing his signature sterling toggle necklace.

APPOINTMENTS

Anne Jones-Fox has been named vice president of jewelry sales at Eugene Biro Corp., New York, N.Y. She has worked in the jewelry industry for more than 20 years, most recently as national sales representative for David Rock Ltd.

Precious metals manufacturer Hoover & Strong Inc. has appointed Steward Grice to the position of mill products manager. Grice had previously served as metallurgical manager for Cookson Precious Metals in the United Kingdom.

FOPE Jewelry Inc. has appointed Manolo Barral-Porto as a sales manager.

Carlo Lesca is the new president of the Information and Gemmological Centre of the Milan, Italy, Chamber of Commerce Council.

OBITUARIES

Milton Francis Dreyfuss, a retired sales representative for Bulova Watch Co., died Jan. 3 at his home in Tamarac, Fla. He was born in Chicago in 1914 and served in the army during World War II. After moving to Tulsa, Okla., he and his wife, Mary, ran a wholesale jewelry business there. They retired in 1986.

Rohinton (Rumi) Engineer, who founded Prudential Jewelers in Chicago in 1986, died Dec. 18, 2000. He was born in Bombay and came to the United States to study for a master's degree in engineering at the University of Wisconsin. His wife, Beverly, worked with him at Prudential Jewelers for the last eight years.
