Harrison Ford Watch Supports Conservation

William George Shuster, Senior Editor -- JCK-Jewelers Circular Keystone, 9/15/2008 11:48:00 AM

Hamilton unveiled a new watch called the Khaki Conservation ($1,195), created with movie star Harrison Ford, to support Conservation International, a non-profit organization dedicated to “demonstrating that human societies thrive when in balance with nature.”

Ford, known for his “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” movies, is a long-time CI board member of and was involved in the watch’s design. A percentage of proceeds from sales of the “special numbered edition” (4,000 units, sold mid-November to Dec. 31) will be given by Hamilton to CI.

The Khaki Conservation, a 42mm stainless steel watch in Hamilton’s Khaki series, has a Swiss automatic GMT movement, visible through its see-through case back. (The watch’s second time zone uses locations of CI projects, from Colombia to Indonesia.) On the case back window itself are engraved the signature of Harrison Ford and the Conservation International logo. The watch’s corrugated cardboard packaging supports the concept of preserving resources by using recycled materials.

Hamilton, founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pa.,  is owned by the Swatch Group of Switzerland, the world’s largest watchmaker. Conservation International, begun in 1987, works in some 40 countries on four continents to help people find economic alternatives to harming their natural environments.
