Designer Dish

Jennifer Heebner -- JCK-Jewelers Circular Keystone, 8/1/2005

Silversmith and jewelry designer Sita Williams entered the Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest last year and was one of 100 finalists to win a trip to Los Angeles to compete for $1 million. While she didn't win the money, she did secure a feature role in Million Dollar Recipe, a documentary about the contest. She also landed a teaching spot at the local YMCA this fall. "They want me to teach others how to enter cooking contests," Williams says.

Williams's jewelry designs are in silver, and many have circular motifs and precious stones. To see them, visit www.sterlingbysita.com.

To sample her baking, try her Bake-Off recipe for Monkey Cereal Bars. In honor of the recipe, Williams made a ring featuring a large brown beryl, a stone that had been waiting for just the right inspiration. "Now it's my Cocoa Cocoa Puffs ring," she says.

Monkey Cereal Bars

2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts

1/4 cup flaked coconut

1/4 cup butter

1 10-ounce bag marshmallows

2 tablespoon unsweetened baking cocoa

6 cups Cocoa Puffs cereal

1 cup coarsely crushed dried banana chips

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake walnuts for 5 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet. Remove cookie sheet from oven. Stir coconut into walnuts. Return to oven and bake an additional 4 to 6 minutes or until coconut is light golden brown. Set aside to cool.

In 4-quart saucepan or Dutch oven, melt butter over medium heat. Add marshmallows and cook 4 to 6 minutes, stirring constantly until melted. Stir in cocoa until well blended. Remove from heat. Stir in cereal, banana chips, and toasted walnuts and coconut until evenly coated; pour into a 13 × 9 inch pan sprayed with cooking spray. Spread mixture evenly, pressing down slightly. Cool 30 minutes. Cut into bars and serve.
