IJA TP HONOR FRIEDMAN’S EXECUTIVE

The United Jewish Appeal-Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York will honor Bradley J. Stinn, chairman and chief executive officer of Friedman’s and Crescent Jewelers, in New York City April 2. Stinn will be honored for his professional achievements and his commitment to civic causes, as well the stores’ help in the UJA-Federation’s annual fundraising campaign.

The UJA-Federation is an international organization dedicated to improving the lives of elderly people.

Jeffrey Comment, chairman and chief executive of Helzberg Diamonds, will chair the event. Former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo will be the keynote speaker.

HONORS

CALP USA, manufacturer of full-lead Italian crystal in New York, N.Y., presented its Sales Representative of the Year awards to Susan Alcuri of ARC Enterprises in Atlanta, Ga., and Robert Ganshorn of Ganshorn & Associates in Chicago, Ill. Alcuri covers the Carolinas and Georgia; Ganshorn covers the Midwest. Both received engraved, full-lead crystal awards.

Helene Fortunoff of Fortunoff Fine Jewelry and Silverware stores in New York and New Jersey was honored recently by the Jewelry Industry Chapter of the American Organization for Rehabilitation Through Training. Fortunoff, who volunteers for many charities, visited the American ORT’s Bramson School for a day to see how the organization was helping people to find jobs.

Harold Kopp, president of Exclusive Merchandisers Inc. in Buffalo, N.Y., was named a Registered Supplier by the American Gem Society. The title is awarded to AGS associates who meet standards of business conduct and have completed formal gemological studies. Kopp has worked in the industry for 15 years and recently succeeded his retired father as president of Exclusive Merchandisers Inc.

The Consolidated Jewelers Association of Greater New York honored Jeff Buckley of Columbia Diamond Ring in Bethel, Conn., as Sales Associate of the Year 1996. CJA also named Barry Block, a master gemologist appraiser in New York, N.Y., Board Member of the Year.

APPOINTMENTS

Frank Stankus joined the Jeweler’s Resource Bureau, a marketing company for designer jewelry in New York, N.Y., as vice president. He will head a new digital design division dealing with the Internet and interactive multimedia.

Jahabow Industries Inc., Owensville, Mo., named Jerry Rosenthal president and chief executive officer. He was formerly an executive vice president with the company.

Valdawn, a creator of custom and collectible watches, named Christine Reinsant as vice president of sales and marketing. Reinsant previously served as the vice president of sales and marketing for the clock division at Bulova.

VAC Service Corp., Middletown, N.Y., which administers warranty and extended service programs for watches and jewelry among other products, named Michael J. Hickey New England sales support manager. Hickey is responsible for sales, training and building relationships with existing customers in six New England states.

Newall Manufacturing Co., Chicago, Ill., named James Wright to president, Penny Gronwold vice president-treasurer and Joan Williams vice president of operations.

Shoppers Charge Accounts Co., a private-label credit card company based in Mahwah, N.J., has appointed Robert Brennan as an assistant vice president and account executive. Brennan has more than 27 years of experience in the retail credit industry.

OBITUARIES

Theodore J. “Ted” Steiner of San Mateo, Cal., died Nov. 13. He was the founder of Steiner’s Jewelers and a past president and long-time board member of the California Jewelers Association.

Peter Ferrari, 83, of New York, N.Y., died Nov. 10. He worked for 55 years for Vors and Pujol Inc. then at Albert J. Pujol Inc., New York City, until his retirement in 1992.

Edward R. Gilligan of Murray Hill, N.J., died Sept. 25. He founded and operated the E.R. Gilligan Chain Co. for 57 years.

Joyce M. Delmanowski, 63, of Tempe, Ariz., died Dec. 1. She owned Authentic Indian Jewelry.
