EXHIBITS

The Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery at The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, Pa., hosts the first retrospective exhibition and publication featuring the jewelry and metalwork of Richard H. Reinhardt from March 20 to May 8. The exhibit kicked off with a public lecture sponsored by the Pennsylvania Society of Goldsmiths and a reception sponsored by Linde Meyer Gold + Silver. Reinhardt is a Philadelphia native (born in 1921) and a master craftsman. The exhibition features more than 70 examples of his silver hollowware, bracelets, torques and neckpieces created from the late 1940s through 1997, loaned from private and public collections. A 48-page catalog of the exhibit is $15. For information, call (215) 875-1116.

“Introducing Contemporary British Jewelry” is an exhibit at The Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston, Mass., from March 7 to April 26. It features the work of 30 British makers. Designs take sculptural, figurative, abstract and narrative forms. Materials range from colored golds and platinum to plastic, steel, anodized aluminum and wood. Call (617) 266-1810.

An exhibition titled “Heritage Regained: Silver from the Gilbert Collection” features 40 pieces of silver and silver-gilt. The pieces were selected from the collection, which was assembled in California over the past 30 years by British-born real estate developer Arthur Gilbert. He presented the collection, then valued at £75 million, to Britain in 1996. The collection features pieces made from the 15th to the 19th centuries; those selected for exhibit were made for distinguished British patrons or are Continental in origin but were in Britain from an early date. The exhibit debuted at Christie’s in London in January. It visits The Burrell Collection, Glasgow, April 10-May 31; Fairfax House, York, Oct. 10-Dec. 28; Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery, Birmingham, Jan. 12-March 14, 1999; Temple Newsam House, Leeds, April 2-June 20; and The National Museum and Gallery, Cardiff, July 10-Sept. 12.
