Revere Offers Jewelry History Class

By Carrie Soucy, Senior Editor -- JCK-Jewelers Circular Keystone, 3/1/2005

For the first time in its 25-year history, the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts will offer a class on Jewelry History. This class will be taught by Christie Romero, a well-known jewelry historian, gemologist, lecturer, instructor, and collector. The two-day workshop is scheduled for April 16 and 17, 2005, as part of the Revere Academy's eighth annual Masters Symposium.

Revere's Jewelry History workshop is geared for makers, designers, collectors, and historians. Day one covers a timeline of jewelry-making techniques from ancient times to the present, including metals and metalsmithing, jewelry-related inventions, patents, and machinery. Day two presents an overview of jewelry styles of the past 250 years, including the American crafts movement of the 20th century. Both days include PowerPoint presentations and hands-on examples. This class is open to anyone interested in jewelry.

Christie Romero directs the Center for Jewelry Studies in Anaheim, Calif., and is the author of Warman's Jewelry, a price and identification guide to 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-century jewelry. Her visually oriented presentation will be supplemented by hands-on examination of jewelry from the instructor's own collection. For more information visit Romero's Web site at www.center4jewelrystudies.org, or contact the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, San Francisco; (415) 391-4179, e-mail: www.revereacademy.com.
