Centurion 2004 Features Dana Carvey and 'The Fab Four'

Staff -- JCK-Jewelers Circular Keystone, 12/1/2003

The lineup for next year's Centurion show includes comedian Dana Carvey and Beatles tribute group The Fab Four. Both will perform on Feb. 4, the eve of the 2004 show's final day.

Emmy Award-winning comedian Dana Carvey will open the gala evening in the Centurion Pavilion. Carvey has received a total of six Emmy nominations and also was honored by the American Comedy Awards as Television's Funniest Supporting Male in 1990 and 1991. Carvey made his writing debut in the 2002 feature film Master of Disguise and currently is performing to sold-out crowds in Las Vegas.

Chosen over hundreds of other bands, The Fab Four entered Capitol Records studios in 2000 and faithfully recreated The Beatles hits "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," "Please, Please Me," and "Kansas City" for The Linda McCartney Story. They also were featured on the trailer for the hit MGM movie Heartbreakers, singing "Money." With uncanny, note-perfect live renditions of the Beatles' songs, The Fab Four makes the audience think they are watching the real thing—with no tapes, sequences, or backing tracks. Their performances have amazed audiences in countries around the world including Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Mexico, and Brazil.

In other show news, Centurion had to cancel one newly scheduled activity, the Retailer Swap Session. The Retailer Swap Day, originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, was canceled because of a combination of security and hotel logistical complications.

Centurion, a by-invitation-only show for the fine-jewelry industry, represents a new business model for jewelry shows. The Centurion ownership structure is split 50/50 between show management and exhibitors—a format designed to ensure that attendees remain the focus of both.

Show dates for Tucson 2004 are Feb. 1-5. For further information, please call (516) 377-5909.
