JCK Industry Fund and JMI Award Grants

The JCK Industry Fund and Jewelers Mutual Insurance Co. (JMI) have awarded grants to the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) Gemological Testing Center for examining the effects of radiation on gemstones and pearls. The JCK Industry Fund grant totaled $50,000; the JMI grant was in the amount of $13,500.
In response to the recent appearance of anthrax-tainted letters, the United States Postal Service now is irradiating mail at some of its facilities. The typical dosage of radiation used is known to have a substantial effect on some gemstones and pearls.
