Roberto Coin Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

By Carrie Soucy, Senior Editor -- JCK-Jewelers Circular Keystone, 1/1/2002

Italian jewelry designer Roberto Coin turned the famous breast cancer awareness symbol—the pink ribbon—into something literally precious when he created a special-edition brooch to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The piece features 18k rose gold fashioned into the shape of the traditional pink ribbon. The design—with a basket-weave inspiration—is part of the designer's Appassionata collection. On the back of the brooch is Coin's signature ruby—a gem that, according to ancient Egyptian custom, brings a woman good health and fortune when it touches her skin.
