Leo Lipp, a co-founder of Tishman & Lipp and partner in T&L Corletto Inc. passed away on June 18 in Sarasota, Fla. He is survived by his wife Stella, his daughter Karen Janowski, and his son Bruce.
Lipp served in the army during World Warr II as a cartographer in Europe and India. Beginning in 1946, he apprenticed at Gratz and Company in Manhattan. Soon after he formed a partnership with Sammie Resnick, and in 1950 he and Irving Tishman started Tishman & Lipp, which continued until Lipp's retirement in 1985. Tishman & Lipp won a number of Diamond Today awards and twice received the Diamonds International Award.
Tishman & Lipp formed Corletto Inc. in 1963, in partnership with Oreste Corletto of Italy. The company was among the first U.S. manufacturers to import a full collection of Italian merchandise for resale to the retail trade. Tishman & Lipp also imported watches and was the first U.S. distributor of Ebel watches.
Carrie Adell, a well-known metalworker and craftswoman, passed away on July 15. From the early days at the Bennington and Rhinebeck craft fairs to her last craft fair in Baltimore this year, Adell was always working to reconcile her love of the earth with the joy she took in metalworking.
When Adell moved to Santa Fe after the death of her husband, she was surprised that she already knew so many people. She created and nourished a vast network of friends on whom she would lavish her verbal chicken soup.
On safari in Kenya, Adell brought her energy and her artistry. While everyone else was busy clicking cameras, she calmly sketched everything she saw, turning the experiences into her own, personal memories.
She wrote her own epitaph many years ago: "The earth speaks for itself / We do not listen / Heeding our own greed, as though / We had another place to be."

Robert Wolman, president of the 24 Karat Club of Southern California from 1969 to 1970, passed away on June 25. He was a member of the 24 Karat Club for more than 50 years.
Eleanore A. Temple, a longtime employee of Hamilton Company Jewelers, Lawrenceville, N.J., died on June 19. She was with Hamilton Jewelers from 1962 until her retirement in 1998.
