Zimbabwe Not Suspended by KP

JCK Staff -- JCK Online, 11/5/2009 1:23:37 PM

Kimberley Process members decided against suspending Zimbabwe for its alleged production of conflict diamonds at a meeting on Thursday, according to The Wall Street Journal report.

According to the report, KP members decided to send a Kimberley monitor to Zimbabwe to supervise the country's diamond production, according to members who attended the meeting, as well as impose a 12-month timeline for reforms. The agreement bans Zimbabwe from exporting stones from Marange, the area where alleged abuses have taken place, until the Kimberley monitor arrives to inspect them.
