Eighteen rings in The Stars of Africa collection feature floating diamonds—stones that float freely in silicone fluid inside natural sapphire domes, like "snowflakes" inside a snow globe. All are set in 18k yellow, white, or rose gold and range in price from $4,950 to $7,900.

The collection is part of ROYAL ASSCHERs Stars of Africa initiative, which raises money for health care, education, and self-sufficiency programs in Africa. The name derives from the Star of Africa diamond (or Cullinan, 3,105 cts. in the rough), cut by the Asscher family, though the name in general refers to the "true Star of Africa, its most precious resource, her people," according to Lita Asscher, president of Royal Asscher of America.

"When I visited Sierra Leone last year, the thing I was most aware of is how much investment was needed at every level in order to create a functional society, health care, education, agricultural programs, and microeconomic loans, says Asscher.

The Star of Africa initiative has helped build a library and provide meals for 17,000 children, among other charitable efforts.

The Stars of Africa rings are made for women, but plans for mens jewelry are in the works. Retail inquiries are welcome, and $150 per ring is donated to charity.
