Petra Diamonds Limited announced Tuesday the recovery of a 507.55 carat white diamond at the Cullinan mine in South Africa.
The diamond was recovered last Thursday and is currently with experts for analysis. Initial examinations indicate that it is of exceptional colour and clarity, and most likely to be a Type II diamond.
Further details, including color grading and clarity, will be released once the diamond has undergone appropriate analysis.
The diamond was recovered alongside three otherwhite stones of similar color and clarity in the same production run: another very large stone of 168.00 carats and two other stones of 58.50 and 53.30 carats.

If I would have that diamond I would immediately find a buyer for it. That diamond would cost a million bucks. That could finance me for the rest of my life. Everyone dreams of striking it rich – like finding a 507-carat diamond. That's just what the independent diamond mining company Petra did. Their strategy is to buy smaller mines or older mines from De Beers in South Africa and other locations, and one of their mines turned up a 507-carat diamond. The mine is the same one where the Cullinan Diamond, the largest diamond ever found, was unearthed. It is now part of the British Crown Jewels. The company took a hard hit after last years' collapse of the diamond market, and despite moving over a million carats of stones, has debts of almost $100 million. A 507-carat diamond might keep them from needing a cash loan.
