VICENZA ORO2 ’99 SETS CONFERENCES

Several conferences devoted to precious stones and metals will take place at VicenzaOro2 ’99, the trade fair in Vicenza, Italy, being held June 12-17.

The World Gold Council’s Sixth International Symposium on Gold Jewellery Technology is scheduled for Sunday, June 13. The theme of the symposium is “Quality Through Technology.” Six presentations will be given by authorities in the field from Germany, Israel, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

Also on Sunday, the British Jewellers Association will host its annual conference, organized by the Retailers Federation and the Vicenza Trade Fair, and the Diamond Promotion Service will present a program focused on the coming of the new millennium.

On Monday, June 14, the Gemological Institute of America will host a “Gem Fest,” and Cisgem and Irigem will present “Gemological Day.”

On Tuesday, June 15, the Italian Metal Finishers will conduct a seminar on surface finishes, the seventh in its series of technology conferences, and the Wholesalers Federation will present a program on its work abroad. Also on Tuesday, WGC will launch Gold Trends 2000, a book that provides an overview of the societal and design influences at work as the millennium approaches.

ATLANTA JEWELRY SHOW FEATURES NEW SECTION

A new designer section has been added to the Atlanta Jewelry Show, scheduled for Aug. 7-9 at the city’s Cobb Galleria Centre. The juried section, “Point of View: A Designer Gallery,” is a self-contained exhibit featuring the work of 32 leading designers. Exhibitors in the section are chosen on the basis of the quality of their designs, their ability to bring products to market, and their suitability for the Southeastern market.

Two exhibitors in the section, Jose Hess and Patricia Daunis-Dunning, will be keynote speakers at “Designer Day,” a special day of seminars devoted to the selling and marketing of jewelry design. “Designer Day” will take place Sunday, Aug. 8.

On Saturday, Aug. 7, the Platinum Guild International will host two classes never before available to Southeastern retailers. Caroline Stanley, PGI’s manager of communications and sales training, will lead “Marketing Platinum.” Jurgen Maerz, PGI’s manager of technical education, will present “Platinum: A Technical Guide.”

On Monday, Aug. 9, the Diamond Promotion Service will conduct its “Best of the Best for the Millennium” program, featuring authorities in the fields of motivation, marketing, gemology, and education.

For information, call the Southern Jewelry Travelers Association, (800) 241-0399 or (404) 634-3434.
