Dee Congress

By JCK Online Staff -- JCK Online, 9/1/2008 2:00:00 AM

Dee Congress, who founded southwest Florida's Congress Jewelers with her husband in 1983, died on Sanibel Island, Fla., Aug. 5. She was 65 and had battled cancer for more than three decades. Dee and her husband, Larry, began the jewelry business, which now has five southwest Florida locations, from two showcases in a Sanibel Island shoe store. Among their biggest sellers were gold sand dollars that sold for $25 each. Their sons Scot, who is president of Congress Jewelers, and Doug, now vice president and CFO, took over the business when Larry and Dee retired in 1998. The business was acquired by Finlay Enterprises in late 2006.
