A. Lange & Söhne Expands in America
By William George Shuster, Senior Editor -- JCK Online, December 1, 2002
The German luxury watch brand A. Lange & Söhne has established a retail network in North America. Until now, the brand was available only at Cellini Jewelers in New York City. Watch industry veteran Marcia Mazzocchi is the new president of Lange Uhren USA, based in Malibu, Calif., the company's first U.S. office.
Since Oct. 1, the brand's North American network includes Cellini; Shreve & Co., San Francisco; Traditional Jewelers, Newport Beach, Calif.; E. Adler & Sons, New Orleans; Alpha Omega, Boston; and Chateau d'Ivoire, Montreal. Walter Lange, grandson of the founder, traveled in October and November to each city in the new North American network along with chief executive officer Hartmut Knothe and Mazzocchi to launch the brand's newly appointed dealers. The three were accompanied by Lange & Söhne's marketing experts as well as a traveling road show about the company.
To support its expansion, Lange & Co., headquartered in Glashütte, Germany, is recruiting more watchmakers and will increase its personnel from 284 to 300 by year's end.
