JVC Offers New Retailers Handbook

At a press conference held during the JA New York Show, the Jewelers Vigilance Committee unveiled its newest publication: The Retailer's Legal Handbook: The JVC's Guide for the Retail Jewelry Store Owner. "The handbook includes clear answers to frequently asked questions received by the JVC as well as important information that can benefit every retailer," says JVC executive director and legal counsel Cecilia L. Gardner. "In the past year, the JVC has had cases dealing with several hot topics that we made sure to incorporate in this new publication. Every retailer now has the information they need in one place."

Hot topics include how long to keep unclaimed repairs, store policies, general employment guidelines and advertising issues (going out of business sales, wholesale to the public, etc.), and many more. The book is divided into four sections:

Store Policies (sales receipts, new and used, modifying designer products)
Conducting Business in Your Store (copyrights, Internet, appraisal, advertising, quality marks)
Employment (hiring, workplace issues, ending employment)
Resources (where to find help, store meeting planner, glossary).
