Zenith, Tom Cruise Support Detox Project for N.Y. Rescue Workers

By JCK Online Staff -- JCK Online, May 9, 2007

Swiss watch manufacturer Zenith was the corporate sponsor of The New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project’s third annual benefit dinner at New York’s Altman Building. The event was hosted by Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes. It raised more than $1.3 million to further the detoxification of New York’s first responders who have been suffering the effects of breathing air filled with smoke, debris, and toxic dust at Ground Zero.

“Having seen the outstanding results that this program achieves, we are very happy to lend our support to Tom Cruise and the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project.” said Paul Ziff, President, Zenith North America. “Anyone hearing the emergency workers recount their success stories could only be moved to strongly support this very worthwhile program.”

Since the project’s founding in 2002, nearly 800 rescue workers have been helped using author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard’s detoxification technology and have had their health and quality of life greatly improved. Included among the 200 individuals and organizations who have helped sponsor rescue workers since the program’s inception, are Adam Sandler, Paul McCartney, Paul Newman, and Joanne Woodward, Warner Bros. Studios, Paramount Pictures, and Viacom.

“There is no doubt that we are in the midst of an unprecedented public health emergency,” said David E. Root, MD, the project’s senior medical advisor regarding the aftermath of the toxic event that resulted from the collapse of the twin towers on 9/11.  Root, a board-certified Occupational Medicine specialist and retired Air Force Colonel has supervised the detoxification of nearly 4,000 individuals.
