Glittering Runways, West Coast-Style

Though New York may be the country's fashion capital, Los Angeles runs a close second, and L.A. Fashion Week is increasingly important for press and buyers.
Less serious than the East Coast version—with notably smaller names on the bill—L.A. Fashion Week for Fall 2004 focused on fun and flirty designs accessorized with diamonds.
Louis Verdad's 1940s-inspired collection sparkled in jewels by celebrity favorite Neil Lane. Among the looks the designer favored were the brooch, cufflinks, and right-hand rings over black gloves.
Other designers reinforced the fall trend toward linear earrings and the banishment of fashion stereotypes. The youthful Frankie B. brand, for example, paired denim, miniskirts, and casual shirts with classic diamond chokers.
