EGL-USA Updates Certificate Covers

EGL-USA has redesigned its grading certificate covers to bring them up to date in terms of the organization and relevant gemological information. A new blue cover called "The Diamond Certificate" is used for white diamonds; a white cover called "The Gem Report" is for all other products, including synthetic and treated gemstones.

The decision to redesign the certificate covers was made when EGL-USA took over the West Coast laboratory last April, a move that has unified and strengthened their operations, said Mark Gershburg, director of EGL-USA, headquartered in New York City.

Both covers list EGL-USA's two locations, in New York and Los Angeles, and no longer include references to other EGL labs around the world. "It's important that our customers understand that we are an independent organization," said Gershburg.

EGL's New York office was established in 1977. From 1977 to 1986, it was part of the European Gemological Laboratory network. Since 1986, it has been an independent, privately owned American company.

The inside of each certificate cover includes important information to help customers interpret their grading certificates. They have been redesigned for easier reading and updated with important industry information. For example, the white cover now includes an explanation of the HPHT technique. The word "processed," referring to HPHT diamonds, has been replaced with "modified." EGL-USA was the first lab to grade and to design an identification certificate for HPHT colored diamonds.
