Student Design Winners Honored at Atlanta Show

Guest judge and master goldsmith Alan Revere presented awards to the winners of the student design competition hosted by the Southern Jewelry Travelers Association and the Savannah College of Art and Design at an awards presentation held Feb. 26, 2006, during the Atlanta Jewelry Show.

The awards were given in four categories: Gold and Platinum, Silver, Alternative Metals and Methods, High Tech Design, as well as an overall award for Best in Show, which was presented to Jennie Lynn. In the Gold and Platinum category, Elissa Frankino won first place, Cyler Hovey-King took second place, and Josh Krug took third place. In the Silver category, Chelsea Miller won first place, Theresa Marr was the second-place winner, and Molly Dingledine took third-place honors. In the Alternative Metals and Methods category, Kristi Jilson was the first-place winner, Theresa Marr was the second-place winner, and Sara Lewis was the third-place winner. In High-Tech Design, Margaret Tillman took first place, Janae Minor took second, and Kristina Hawland took third

The competition was open to current matriculating students and alumni. A panel of industry experts, including members of the press, industry designers, and retail jewelry storeowners, judged entries. All pieces were evaluated on the basis of overall design, marketability, wearability, and craftsmanship. Event sponsors included Guertin Bros., Stuller Inc., and Galatea Jewelry by Artist.
