A 5.13-ct. diamond ring with platinum mounting was purchased Tuesday for $409,763 at a Christie’s "Bijoux" auction, held at the company’s Paris location.
A total of 225 lots took in $4.7 million for the evening.
“Reflecting the tendencies of Geneva, Hong Kong, London, and New York, diamonds once more shined in Paris,” said Emma Checkley, director of Christie's jewelry department in Paris. “An increase of almost 15% since the beginning of the year, they carried out the highest prices. The collectors of Russia, of the Middle East, of Asia, and the United States were particularly active.”
Other items of note during the sale included an 8.16 ct. diamond marquise sold for $391,173, a 13.16 diamond pendant which sold for $279,631, and a 10.3-ct. round diamond ring which sold for $205,269.
