At Tina Tang, Every Purchase Plants a Tree

By Bacilio Mendez II -- JCK Online, 5/1/2008 2:00:00 AM

While Tina Tang was preparing to design her next collection, she found herself thinking "less about sapphires and more about cedars." The equities trader—turned—jewelry designer opted to forgo the flash of diamonds for a piece that benefits The American Forest Organization.

The ReLeaf Necklace, a simple olive leaf design, comes in sterling silver or gold. The front displays a classic branch shape, and the back features Tang's environmental philosophy: "Peace, Love, and Recycle." It's available online at www.tinatang.com, www.americanforests.org, or at Tang's store on Greenwich Avenue, in New York's West Village.

Each ReLeaf necklace helps plant at least 40 trees. To date the necklace has raised enough money to plant over 12,000. "Being socially conscious is always in style," says Tang.
