Overt or Covert, the Message Is the Thing

By Carrie Soucy, Senior Editor -- JCK Online, 1/1/2004 2:00:00 AM

From the obvious ID bracelet to the subtle heart pendant, jewelry with a message remains an important category for the retail jeweler. Whether as a gift to say, "I love you," or a self-purchase to make a statement to the world, message jewelry can be appropriate for nearly any customer.

While charms remain both a trend and a staple, designers are creating other modern message pieces—rings or cufflinks depicting ancient symbols, for example—in record quantities. The category may be broad, covering everything from bridal to fashion to men's, but the sales potential is a message to remember when shopping for spring merchandise.
