NGOs Launch 'Blood Diamond' Web Site

Rob Bates, JCK Senior Editor -- JCK Online, November 14, 2006

Global Witness, Amnesty International, and the "Blood Diamond" movie have launched a new Web site, www.blooddiamondaction.org, which contains information about conflict diamonds that is often critical of the industry.

According to a blog post from the site's designer, the site will be plugged on an upcoming episode of "Oprah."

The site includes stills and the trailer to the movie, as well as a "buyers' guide" and a section on "The Truth About Diamonds."

The Buyer's Guide asks consumers to ask jewelers the following questions:

* "How can I be sure none of your jewelry contains conflict diamonds?
* Do you know where the diamonds you sell come from?
* Can I see a copy of your company’s policy on conflict diamonds?
* Can you show me a written guarantee from your diamond suppliers stating that your diamonds are conflict-free?"

In the "Take Action" section, there are suggested letters to the U.S. government and the World Diamond Council.

Further discussion of the site can be found on the JCK Voices blog:
