The amount of diamond jewelry that eBay sells is dizzying: The category accounts for half of the site's $1.5 billion in worldwide jewelry sales. Last month JCK shared some of eBay's jewelry sales statistics (see “EBay Fast Facts,” JCK, November 2005, p. 64); here are some about diamond jewelry:

• The most popular diamond shapes sold are round, princess, marquise, and trillion.

• More than 70 round diamond solitaire rings sell daily.

• More than 20 princess-cut diamond rings sell daily.

• The most expensive diamond shapes selling are cushions, emeralds, and Asschers.

• Diamond solitaires are the best-selling style of engagement ring.

• Yellow and white gold are the two most popular choices of metals for diamond rings.

• Every day, eBay sells more than 10 diamond solitaire rings with 2.00 cts. t.w. or more of diamond center stones.

• More than 400 wedding and anniversary bands sell daily.

• More than 180 diamond stud earrings sell daily.

• More than 70 diamond tennis bracelets sell daily.

• Nearly 50 diamond pendants sell daily in either a solitaire stone or a three-stone style.

• More than 120 strands of necklaces sell every day.
