ADDITIONAL GROUPS JOIN MARCH SHOW

The Iowa Jewelers Association and the Minnesota and North Dakota Jewelers Associations have joined the Wisconsin-Illinois Jewelry Expo to form “Midwest Jewelry Expo 2000.”

The five-state show will be held March 11-12 at the Marriott Hotel in Madison, Wis. The show’s timing enables jewelers to replenish inventory and prepare for the spring and summer buying seasons.

JA NEW YORK SHOW SLATED THIS MONTH

More than 900 exhibitors and 7,800 attendees are expected at the JA New York winter show, which will take place Tuesday, Feb. 6 through Thursday, Feb. 8 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.

Plans for the show include a “Showcase of Style Designer Section”; “Diamond Tuesday,” featuring educational events designed to help retailers increase sales; a Platinum Pavilion; the “Bench Jewelers Marketplace,” featuring manufacturing tools; a “Diamond Bourse,” sponsored by the Diamond Dealers Club; International Pavilions representing more than 20 countries; and an educational program that will include a day devoted entirely to online retailing.

DIAMOND EVENT SET IN ISRAEL

Israel’s diamond industry, in conjunction with its government, is hosting the country’s second Rough Diamond Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Tel Aviv March 21-23.

Ministers of mining countries and CEOs of producing and exploration companies will present their corporate policies and marketing strategies in light of the changing rough marketing environment. Speakers will include Gary Ralfe, De Beers’ managing director; Vyacheslav Shtryov, the president of Russia’s Alrosa diamond conglomerate; Jim Rothwell, president of BHP Diamonds; and Chris Jennings, president of SouthernEra.

The conference is being organized by the Israel Diamond Institute, Israel Diamond Exchange Ltd., and the Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association in cooperation with the Israeli government and diamond industry financing institutions. Attendance is free to qualified members of the international rough diamond community.

The program will include panel discussions, question-and-answer periods, a gala dinner, luncheons, and a sightseeing tour of Jerusalem.
