Magnata Makes New Chalcedonies for Tucson Show

By Gary Roskin, G.G., FGA, Senior Editor -- JCK Online, 2/1/2004 2:00:00 AM

Colored stone supplier Maxam Magnata of Tucson, Ariz., is launching two new colors of dyed chalcedony: Sunfire (golden yellow) and Verdana (chartreuse green). Magnata released Sea Blue chalcedony last year in Tucson.

Magnata is following closely the AGTA's 2004 color report, which states that soft romantic pastels—such as warm golden hues and deep verdant greens—are in vogue.

Because of its porous nature, chalcedony is often dyed. The most common dyed chalcedony is black onyx. But even for something as inexpensive as dyed chalcedony, one needs to know that the product will not fade over time. Magnata uses what is technically called a stain, which is permanent and will not fade.

Magnata also is known for his drusy collection, and he'll be debuting colored drusy hoops this month.

For more information about Maxam Magnata, call (800) 639-4367 or visit www.WholesaleGems.com.
