MAD Hosts Famed German Jewelry Exhibit

The Museum of Arts & Design in New York will host “Schmuck” (German for “jewelry”), an internationally renowned, juried exhibition of contemporary jewelry that's the oldest and most visited exhibition of its kind. The exhibit runs from May 18 through Sept. 3.
Inaugurated in Munich, Germany, in 1959, “Schmuck” has been held there every year. In 2006, the exhibition includes works by 60 established and emerging artists from more than 20 countries. The pieces are created by leading international jewelry artists known for innovative approaches to materials and techniques.
“Schmuck 2006” is the exhibition's first-ever showing in the United States and is part of a continuing program of jewelry-related projects that will culminate in the Center for the Study of Contemporary Jewelry at the Museum of Arts & Design's new home at Two Columbus Circle in New York.
