Jewelry Comes to a Head

By Carrie Soucy, Senior Editor -- JCK Online, 7/1/2003 2:00:00 AM

The benefits of versatile jewelry have made it a standard within the industry—especially during the past decade's rise of self-purchasing women looking for pieces they can wear throughout a day of diverse activities. But leave it to Mikimoto to take the concept one step further.

Everyone has seen the necklace that can be worn several ways, the brooch that doubles as a pendant, and the earring with the detachable drop. Now, the company known for revolutionizing the pearl industry has launched a concept attempting to influence not only the versatile jewelry segment but also the very fashion of fine jewelry itself.

Mikimoto's latest venture is a special-edition headpiece that converts to be worn as either a necklace or two bracelets. The piece functions on a simple wire frame that is removed, leaving intact a two-piece necklace that can be separated into two bracelets.
