Runway Jewels

Jewelers clamored to be among those who dressed the models on New York's runways during Fashion Week in September. Along with the usual suspects—the World Gold Council, for example, went so far as to serve as a co-sponsor of Mark Montano's show—were smaller designers who are, increasingly, savvy about the power of high-profile fashion exposure. Companies included Sol Rafael—a dynamic marketer to the stars to begin with—who accessorized the celebrity-studded designs from House of Field. Other newcomers to Fashion Week were Reinhold Jewelers, a Puerto Rico-based retailer that provided jewels to designer Gustavo Arango.
The clothes themselves were styled, in general, to welcome fine-jewelry accessories for spring and summer. Flowing silhouettes, soft and feminine colors, and open necklines call for a season of sensual jewelry designs.
